Falcor the magic luck dragon Sculpture

Greetings to all who may drop by, As I mentioned in my last post https://artbydaz.wordpress.com/2020/04/05/my-mothers-passing/ I really haven’t been in the blogging mood for the past few months and even now I really don’t feel like writing or doing any kind of art, I had plans of doing some small pieces for the Carnival season but those plans were put on hold because of my mother’s illness.

This sculpture was created a few years ago, using paper-mache clay I can no longer remember the dates because as I mentioned, I wrote everything down and sealed it inside the sculptures that I made so the info is there but it’s forever locked inside the different sculptures ( larger ones) and the phone that took the original photos that I had, produced a set of low quality images and had a wrong day and year. The date and time kept resetting on my old phone whenever it fell and I just ended up leaving it that way because I was never  much of a phone person anyway.

For the older folks you may easily recognise the subject of this sculpture as Falcor the magic luck dragon from the never ending story, it took about 6 weeks to complete this between layering, drying and building up the form, it weighs approx 7 lbs, is about 4.5 feet long and if memory serves me right at the time of adding, I counted the scales  it could possibly be about 700 ( more or less) and these were all individually added one by one.

The Never ending story was one of my favourite movies as a child, it’s funny how you remember such things so many years later and though the graphics , even Falcor himself by today’s movie standards looks poorly made, I still consider it a pretty good movie. Anyway I’ll keep on adding the rest of my sculptures as time goes by .

So far 2020 has been an eventful year the Covid 19 taking its toll on the world almost like a zombie virus or a plague, we’re seeing told to stay indoors and practise social distancing, heck, even the churches are closed, late last year 2019 I started to taking long walks again hoping to go running like I use to do years ago, since it’s been a very long time (many years) that I did any kind of running at all when I started again my knees and feet hurt, I thought, “I can’t remember running feeling like this”, anyway I gradually built myself up to doing a 3 mile run and though it’s not much, I’m ok with that as I’m not a professional runner, I simply love the feeling of freedom when I run or jog and the exhilarating feeling that I get after. At the moment even exercising outside is not advised by our Government until further notice because of Covid 19. This and my mother’s death has made 2020 not such a wonderful year so far. But as they say time heals all wounds and life goes on, eventually, this too shall pass.

Who am I is one of the biggest questions that we're here to discover. I can say I am this or I am that but time changes everything, so we're always something new. I had many pet cats when I was a kid but my favorite was snarf who I named after the snarf from thunder-cats.
